Job Title: Planning and Development Director


Location: Fort Lauderdale/Miami (Local candidates only)

Job Overview:


This role is responsible for leading the operations of a Planning and Development Department. You will oversee the creation, coordination, and implementation of comprehensive urban and land development plans, guiding both commercial and residential developments. As part of your duties, you will lead a team of planning professionals, manage capital improvement projects (CIP) from design to construction, and develop policies and procedures to evaluate the potential cost-benefit of development projects.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Oversee the creation, amendment, and implementation of urban master plans, site plans, and land development projects.
  • Lead the development of a 5-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) and manage projects through all phases of planning, design, and construction.
  • Direct the work of planning professionals across various sectors (commercial, industrial, residential).
  • Develop, implement, and administer departmental policies and objectives.
  • Collaborate with federal, state, county, and local agencies to ensure compliance and effective project management.
  • Utilize software such as AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and other databases for project management and data analysis.


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of management and supervisory experience in planning and design.
  • Experience working with government agencies and officials preferred.
  • Certifications required: American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), American Planning Association (APA), or Florida Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and project management software.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with the ability to travel as needed.


Schedule & Compensation:


  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with flexibility for emergencies (including weekends and holidays).
  • Compensation: $180-240K/year, based on experience.
